This beautiful holiday home near Cortona, is located at a 15 min drive (15km) from this famed Etruscan and medieval town, main cultural and artistic centre of the Val di Chiana after Arezzo. The cottage is the outbuilding of an old farmhouse, dating back to the 18th century, where the owners live. According to local authorities, the farmhouse was in ancient times used as a resting place for travellers and their horses, from which derives its unique and exquisite farming architecture. Positioned on top of a hill, the cottage enjoys a breathtaking view over the typical Tuscan countryside of wheat fields, sunflowers, olive groves and cypresses. The house has recently been renovated in respect of the traditional rural style together with simple elegance and modern comforts. Furnished in very good taste, the cottage, all on the ground floor can guest up to 6 people, consists of a very bright living room (with a single sofa bed), fire place, full equipped kitchen and comfortable 2 bedrooms (1 double and one with twin bed, convertible into double) with En-Suite bathrooms; an additional sofa bed is located into one bedroom. Outside there is a porch for outdoor meals, a barbecue and a small private garden with a wonderful view over the countryside. Also available a swimming pool (12x6mt, from 1 to 2 mt deepth, open May-Oct), shared with the owners who will avoid disturbing the guests’ privacy. These holiday homes in Tuscany are in the hamlet of Poggio di Loro, on the Tuscan Apennines, in the centre of the region, which stretches itself out around a castle and a beautiful church whose origins are lost in the mists of time. Documents of 1247 attest to the existence of the castle which, with its tower still inhabited today, reminds people of the power the village had in those days. Walking down the narrow, curving streets, among the stone houses skilfully chiselled by the stone-cutters, one can’t help remaining pleasantly surprised by the care and love of the few inhabitants of this village, who have succeeded in maintaining its charm and energy, in respect of the past. And so one can encounter old stairways, adorned with plants, pots of herbs and pastel coloured flowers, ancient wrought iron railings and banisters, small windows behind which one can catch a glimpse of the brick and wood beamed ceilings, and doors still with their ancient bolts. At 650 meters over sea level Poggio is entirely surrounded by chestnuts, cypresses, pine and oak trees punctured by clearings that offer unforgettable views of Prato Magno and of the gigantic cross that crowns it. Summer days are celebrated by feasts in outdoor places organized by the local shopkeeper and a group of people who love this wonderful village.
