Description

These holiday homes in Tuscany are in the hamlet of Poggio di Loro, on the Tuscan Apennines, in the centre of the region, which stretches itself out around a castle and a beautiful church whose origins are lost in the mists of time. Documents of 1247 attest to the existence of the castle which, with its tower still inhabited today, reminds people of the power the village had in those days. Walking down the narrow, curving streets, among the stone houses skilfully chiselled by the stone-cutters, one can’t help remaining pleasantly surprised by the care and love of the few inhabitants of this village, who have succeeded in maintaining its charm and energy, in respect of the past. And so one can encounter old stairways, adorned with plants, pots of herbs and pastel coloured flowers, ancient wrought iron railings and banisters, small windows behind which one can catch a glimpse of the brick and wood beamed ceilings, and doors still with their ancient bolts. At 650 meters over sea level Poggio is entirely surrounded by chestnuts, cypresses, pine and oak trees punctured by clearings that offer unforgettable views of Prato Magno and of the gigantic cross that crowns it. Summer days are celebrated by feasts in outdoor places organized by the local shopkeeper and a group of people who love this wonderful village. In this context a big, old, stone building has been renovated with expert attention to details. These three holiday apartments in Tuscany have been created in respect of the past style; the furniture and ornaments do not fail to usher you into the comforts of the past without, however, neglecting modern comforts so as to guarantee a pleasant stay. Poggio di Loro is not only a great place to visit and to live in, but, also, the short distance separating it from Florence, Siena and Arezzo permits programming visits to these magnificent art cities and their surroundings, not to mention Chianti, with its gorgeous wines and cuisine. A perfect place for a holiday in Tuscany, far from the madding crowd.

Chianti

This is Tuscany’s most notorious region. It comprises the area bordering Florence in the north and Siena in the south. Historically, the name of Chianti seems to originate from the Etruscan word “clante”, water, but also a family name. The first renovation of villas for rent in Chianti started around the 60s, but the region has for centuries been a favourite destination for many tourists. Nowadays it is also known as Chiantishire, being a cherished destination for the English. Indeed, many foreigners, not only British, have even decided to settle themselves in this area, buying old farmhouses and restoring them. But there are not only villas. During the years, stunning castles and charming farmhouses, where loving owners produce their excellent and well known wines, have been carefully renovated, yielding an appealing assortment of apartments for rent in the Chianti area.
Distinguished by gently rolling hills, it is one of Italy's most appreciated areas due to its excellent wines, olive oil, art treasures and various landscapes, made up of vineyards, cypresses, villas, farms, castles, abbeys, churches. It has understandably become the symbol of beauty and of a way of living which is still slow, gentle and kind, the right location to savour the essence of an unspoilt Tuscany.
A must for the curious traveller is the Via Chiantigiana, from Florence to Siena, as it penetrates the heart of this luxurious region.
Absolute gems which deserve a visit: Greve in Chianti, Panzano, Castellina in Chianti, Radda, Gaiole with the Meleto and Brolio Castles, all well-renowned for their wine production and last, but not least, Castlenuovo Berardenga, a fortified village, set in a stunning landscape
